Waitangi Day scavenger hunt
Treaty of Waitangi Scavenger Hunt
Did you know there are nine sheets that make up the Treaty of Waitangi?
Drop into the Tauranga City Library between Monday 4 and Sunday 10 February to enter our Treaty of Waitangi scavenger hunt. Anyone can enter and there are great prizes to be won!
Simply collect an entry form from the sign up desk at the entrance of the Tauranga City Library, search for the nine sheets, answer the questions – and learn some interesting facts along the way. Did you know that only one of the treaty sheets is written in English?
The Treaty of Waitangi Scavenger Hunt runs from Monday 4 to Sunday 10 February – except on Waitangi Day itself (Wednesday 6 February) when the library will be closed.
If you have any questions you can email us or call 07 577 7177.
Other ways to celebrate Waitangi Day
On Waitangi Day itself, make sure you check out some of the cool events on around the city!
Waitangi Day dawn service
Join us to commemorate the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) at the dawn service. Gather from 6am at Hopukiore (Mount Drury Reserve) – the community celebration starts at 6.30am. Bring a blanket or a chair in case it’s dewy!

Tauranga Moana Waitangi Day Festival 2019
Carry on the celebration all day with He Iwi Kotahi, a collaboration of local organisations, at the Tauranga Moana Waitangi Day Festival 2019.
This two-venue all day event will take place at The Historic Village on 17th Avenue, and at Hopukiore Historic Reserve. It will feature live music, cultural performances and food stands at both venues, along with art exhibitions and workshops at The Historic Village.
The festival is a koha (donation) event that will go towards supporting local kapa haka group Te Kapa Haka o Ngati Ranginui as they prepare to represent our beautiful city at Te Matatini 2019.
