Kia Kaha te Pānui is a free, fun reading challenge for ages 0-18! A great way to maintain reading levels over the long summer break, we encourage your tamariki to enjoy books and stories, write reviews, participate in craft activities, and enter to win some awesome prizes!
This year, you can beat the rush by pre-registering from Monday, 9 December – Sunday, 15 December (2.30pm-closing time only). The Kia Kaha te Pānui - Summer Reading Challenge itself begins on Monday, 16 December and runs until Tuesday, 28 January (you can still register during this time).
There are three age groups:
Mini Reads (0-4 years old)
Summer Reads (5-10 years old)
Teen Reads (11-18 years old)
Simply read as much and as frequently as you can over summer (or have someone read to you). You can read whatever you like, and they don't have to be library books! Visit us three times to share something you've been reading, and we'll reward you with some epic prizes!
Everyone who visits for their first check-in receives a free swimming pool pass (thanks, BayVenues!).
At each check-in, you can choose which cool prize you would like to go in the draw to win (there are some awesome options, including family passes to Waimarino (thanks, Waimarino!). At your third (and final) check-in, children aged 0-10 receive an invite to our epic finale party where they can collect a beautiful, brand-new prize book selected especially for them! Teens aged 11-18 receive a swap slip they can bring back to the library at the conclusion of the challenge to exchange for a $20 book voucher!
There’ll also be postcard review competitions, free craft activities for all ages, in-library scavenger hunts, and more. So, what are you waiting for? Get to your library from Monday, 9 December (2.30pm-closing time only) to register to join in the summer fun!
