Holiday programmes

School Holiday Programme – April 2022

Please note: There is a ‘book-a-chair’ (in-person attendance) option and a ‘book-a-bag’ (take-home activity) option for many of the activities included in our school holiday programme. Please make sure you book the option that suits you best.

All in-person attendees will need to follow the relevant COVID protection framework regulations. Please do not attend any sessions if you are unwell and please contact us to cancel your ticket. Due to the possibility of illness-related cancellations, walk-up places may be available on the day.

Registered participants will be notified via email if a session is cancelled due to staff illness. Please check your email on the day of your event.


Rocky Racers (book-a-chair)

For ages 3–6

Draw a fun racetrack for your rocky racers to hoon around on or create a grassy meadow and some rockin’ unicorns. Bring your imagination and make a scenic background or game board and two rock characters or cars.

Easter Eggs Nest (book-a-chair)

For ages 7–10

Make an egg using air-dry clay then use wool and a paper plate to weave a nest for it. Who knows, the Easter bunny may even have a wee treat for you!

Join us for some puzzling fun. Design your own jigsaw puzzle and box. Will you make it an alien or animal? A car or a caterpillar? Will you make it easy or hard as can be?

Teddy Fort Night

For all ages

Does your favourite soft toy love snuggling up for stories by torchlight and building forts with your family? This exciting after-hours event invites families to build blanket forts within the library, enjoy reading some stories together, and then leave your soft toy behind for a sleepover. Return the following day to collect your toy and a photobook containing evidence of their mischievous overnight antics!

Ahead of Anzac Day on 25 April, join us to make an Anzac poppy in remembrance of those who have served.

Naughty Peeves has stolen some essential Quidditch supplies! Work as a team to solve challenging puzzles and unlock the locks to find the missing Golden Snitches before time runs out!

Sphero Sports

For all ages

Become a robot sports superstar! Come along to one of our four drop-in sessions, take control of our Sphero Robots and see how well you can do on the giant maze, tenpin bowling, archery or even a game of soccer with a friend! Find out more about the amazing programmes we offer for kids through our libraries and have some fun.

Allow approximately 15-20 minutes to complete the activities. You may have to wait your turn, but you can enter our design competition by colouring in your own Sphero robot, or browse the library while you wait.


Robomania (celebrating International Robotics Week)

Various ages

Code, build, create, wire, connect… our Digi Team have put together a series of events to get kids excited about robotics as we celebrate International Robotics Week. There are four booked sessions to choose from.
 

The Very Hungry Ozobot

For ages 4–7 (MicroBots)

Introduce your child to Ozobot, one of the smallest programmable robots in the world. In this fun, interactive session, kids will listen to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar, design a Caterpillar costume for their Ozobot, then use coloured pens to code and navigate their Ozobot around a map collecting goodies on its way.

Edison LEGO Finger-Tapping Robot

For ages 8–10 (MiniBots)

Have you got a budding engineer, designer or builder? This hands-on session is for the detail orientated. Work your way independently through a LEGO build to make and code your very own motorised hand. Kids will need to be able to work independently and it would help if they were experienced LEGO builders.

Recycled Motorised Robots

For ages 10–14 (MegaBots)

Turn that trash into something to treasure! This session is for the arty and creative kids that also love a bit of technology thrown into the mix. We will learn a little about electrical circuits as we attach motors and batteries to get our robot moving!

Pacman Makey Makey

For ages 13+ (TerrorBots)

With a large coding focus, this session is for the serious Scratch enthusiast. Teens will code their very own Pacman game which they can share and play at home. Fast finishers will get the chance to design their own controller using a Makey Makey invention kit, plug them into the laptops and use to control the Pacman character in their game.
