Low-Sensory Hour

Low-Sensory Hour at Greerton Library

Low lights and reduced noise for a whole hour at Greerton Library on Wednesdays from 3:00-4:00pm, starting 28 September.

As part of Tauranga City Libraries commitment to inclusion and to sharing the complete library experience with people of all abilities and support needs within the community, every week there is now an entire hour where sensory stimuli is reduced inside Greerton Library. This includes reducing lights, sounds and noise associated with re-stocking, and the checking out and returning of library items.

During this hour, customers will experience:

  • Low sensory stimuli (reduced lights, sounds and noise)
  • Compassionate staff with an understanding of the need for quiet for visiting community members

This hour is not just for autistic people and their families—it is for everyone who appreciates a low sensory, accepting environment.

If you have feedback for us, please email library@tauranga.govt.nz or phone 07-577 7177 so that we can make this a positive experience for you and your whānau.
