Kia Kaha Te Panui Summer Reads
Heads up, summer readers!
This is the final week for Summer Reads booklets to be completed—all completion cards must be handed in by this Saturday (18 January).
We can’t wait to see you at the finale parties next week and we hope you loved participating in our programme!
Kia Kaha te Pānui/Summer Reads, our summer reading programme, will be available from 9 December 2019.
During this fun-filled activity-based programme, you must do two check-ins, plus another two activities from our Summer Reads booklet, to complete the programme and earn a prize book, certificate and an invite for your whole family to attend the finale party at Memorial Park. Teens completing the Teen Summer Reads programme earn a prize voucher and an exclusive invite to a world-record breaking pizza party.
Kia Kaha te Pānui/Summer Reads will be a little bit different this year. Read on to find out all you need to know. If you have any questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or phone 07 577 7177.
When can I start the programme?
You can start the programme anytime from 9 December 2019. The final day to hand in your completion card is 18 January 2020. There is no date you have to have started by, so long as you can get the four challenges done.
Who can join the programme?
Anyone aged between 5 and 10 years old or 11-18 for the Teen Summer Reads booklet. You don’t need to be a whare pukapuka/library member, but we would love you to join if you aren’t (did you know we even have children’s memberships and that becoming a member is free?).
Do I need to register for the programme?
No, just take one of our booklets, complete four activities, two of which must be kanohi kitea/check-ins, and hand in your completion card (on the back page) when you are finished.
What if I want to do more than four activities?
Great, any extra activities completed will get you entries into special prize draws. Just make sure you wait until you have done all the activities you want to do before handing in your completion card. Once you have handed in your completion card you won’t be able to hand in another.
How will you know which activities I have done?
As you do a check-in or ‘I te whare pukapuka – at the library’ activity, a library team member will sign it off on your completion card. So it’s important to bring the book with you when you come to an activity. If you do an ‘I te kāinga – at home’ activity an adult at home will sign it off on the completion card.
What if I lose my book or forget to bring it to the whare pukapuka/library activity?
Uh oh, we won’t be keeping records of your challenges at the whare pukapuka/library, so you will need to bring your book with you. If you lose it, you will need to start again.
Do I need to go to the same whare pukapuka/library every time?
No way, we want you to explore all of our amazing libraries. Just go to the whare pukapuka/ library that you want to on that day. A hōtaka/events calendar in the booklet will show you which activities are happening where/when.
