Below are some basic steps to get you started.


Read eBooks on your smartphone or tablet
To download and read on a smartphone or tablet you will need to get the ePlatform app. Once you have downloaded your eBook you do not need to be connected to the internet to read it.
To access ePlatform on these Apple devices we recommend using the free ePlatform app (you will need iOS7 or higher). Just follow these simple steps.
- Visit the Apple App Store and install the ePlatform app
- Log in, search for your public library, then browse for eBooks
- Select ‘Read Now’ to read desired titles
- Open the ePlatform app when you want to begin reading or borrow again – no need to log in each time
Alternatively, you can use your library’s ePlatform website, where you can either read eBook titles through your web browser or download them.
To read titles through your browser follow these steps.
- Go to your library’s ePlatform website, log in, then browse for eBooks
- Select ‘Read Now’ to read desired titles via your web browser
- Add the title to your Favourites when the book is open to access it offline
- Go to your library’s ePlatform website when you want to begin reading again
To download and read titles (including all PDF titles) you will need to obtain an Adobe ID and download additional reader software, as follows.
- Obtain a free Adobe ID
- Visit the Apple App Store and install the Bluefire Reader or DL Reader app
- Enter your Adobe ID and password to authorize the app
- Go to your library’s ePlatform website, log in, then browse for eBooks
- Select ‘Download’ to download desired titles, then select ‘Add to Reading List’
- Select 'Open in Bluefire Reader' or ‘Open in DL Reader’ to begin reading
To access ePlatform on devices using the Android operating system (eg. Galaxy Tab, Galaxy S, Galaxy Note, HTC devices) we recommend using the free ePlatform app. Just follow these simple steps.
- Visit Google Play and install the ePlatform app

- Open the ePlatform app when you want to begin reading or borrow again – no need to log in each time

- Add the title to your Favourites when the book is open to access it offline
- Go to your library’s ePlatform website when you want to begin reading again, or follow steps 3-6 to borrow and download further titles
Read eBooks on your computer or eReader device
To read the eBook on your computer or to transfer it to your eReader device you will need an Adobe ID and Adobe Digital Editions installed on your computer.
If you have a PC or Mac, you can read eBooks through your library’s ePlatform through your web browser or by downloading the titles.
To read titles through your browser follow these steps.
- Go to your library’s ePlatform website, log in, then browse for eBooks.
- Select ‘Read Now’ to read desired titles via your web browser.
- Add the title to your Favourites when the book is open to access it offline.
- Go to your library’s ePlatform website when you want to begin reading again.
To download and read titles (including all PDF titles) you will need to obtain an Adobe ID and download additional reader software, as follows.
- Obtain a free Adobe ID.
- Download Adobe Digital Editions.
- Enter your Adobe ID and password to authorize the app.
- Go to your library’s ePlatform website, log in, then browse for eBooks.
- Select ‘Download’ to download desired titles, then open the downloaded file (this will be an ‘acsm’ file).
- This will open in Adobe Digital Editions, allowing you to begin reading.
- Add the title to your Favourites when the book is open to access it offline.
- Go to your library’s ePlatform website when you want to begin reading again, or follow steps 3 – 6 to borrow and download further titles.
- To transfer an eBook to an eReader device, attach your eReader device to your computer. It should appear in Adobe Digital Editions in the list on the left side. Now you can drag the eBook onto the device.
- Please note you will be unable to read our eBooks on a Kindle eReader.
Do I need to pay to use ePlatform?
It is free to borrow our eBooks. You will need your library card and PIN and an internet connection to start borrowing.
Is there a limit to how many titles I can borrow?
You can borrow five ebooks at the same time.
How long can I have my eBook for?
Each loan lasts for two weeks.
Once you finish reading your eBook you can return it. This will free up your loans and allow you to borrow another eBook.
If there are no reserves on the title you are reading, then you can check out the eBook again for another two weeks.
Can I renew my eBook?
Titles cannot be renewed before the lending period expires. However, you can download the title again after it has returned if there are no existing Holds on it.
What can I do if the title I want to borrow is checked out to someone else?
If the eBook you want to read is checked out to someone else, you can place a reserve. ePlatform will send you an email to let you know when it is available for you to download.
Do I need to do anything to return my eBook?
eBooks are deleted automatically once they expire on your mobile device or computer.
Can I use my Kindle to read Tauranga City library eBooks?
Unfortunately, no. The Kindle eReader from Amazon is not compatible with our library eBook collection.
